Description

Product: Tomato Flakes

Description: Our tomato flakes are a tasty, convenient and easy way of adding texture and an additional rich, fruity, tomato flavour to your recipes, they work particularly well with Italian dishes and with meat and poultry. Tomatoes are rich in lycopene and are a good source of fibre, protein and omega 3 & 6 fatty acids, they also contain vitamins A, B3, C, K & folate and minerals including calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, manganese, selenium & zinc.

Interesting Fact: Did you know that tomato is thought to have originated in Peru? In fact the word tomato is believed to be derived from the ancient Aztec word ‘xitomatl’, which means ‘plump thing with a navel’, which is a good description of the tomato fruits. During the medieval period, up until the late 18th century, the tomato was believed to be a poisonous plant. The fact that the tomato comes from the same plant family as Deadly Nightshade, Henbane and Belladonna didn’t help its cause, and it wasn’t until the late 18th century that the tomato lost its poisonous image in Europe and began to become an everyday culinary item.

Ingredients: Dried flakes of Solanum lycopersicum.

Allergy Advice: Tomatoes are a naturally occurring source of salicylates and are best avoided by people eating a salicylate free diet. This product is packed in a nut free area but we cannot guarantee a nut free factory as nuts are packed elsewhere.
