Description: Red Jalapeno – pronounced ‘Ha-Lay-Pain-Yo’ - chillies come from Mexico and are a staple ingredient of ‘Tex-Mex’ cuisine and probably one of the best known chillies, which range in heat from mild to hot and register on the Scoville scale at between 2,500-10,000 SHU. Our red jalapenos have a sweeter, fruiter flavour than the green with a medium heat; they are heat treated to preserve their quality and freshness and are pre-cut to 3-6mm for ease of use.
Interesting Fact: Did you know that a single jalapeno plant can produced between 25-35 fruits? It takes just over 4.5kg of fresh jalapenos to make less than half a kilo of dried jalapeno peppers, the vitamin C content is higher in fresh jalapenos, but there are small amounts in dried jalapenos which also contain flavonoids, minerals including calcium and iron and vitamins A, E and K.

Allergy Advice: Chillies contain a naturally occurring source of salicylates and is best avoided by people eating a salicylate free diet.
SUGGESTED USEJalapenos can be used to add flavour to Mexican dishes such as enchiladas, tacos, salsas, stews, soups and sauces. The ground spice can even be used to add punch to pizza and grain dishes. Add to curries, chilli-con-carne and a whole variety of spicy dishes. You can use chilli to liven up just about any savoury dish. Add a light dusting of chilli powder and cumin to make extra spicy potato wedges or roasted vegetables for a spicy twist. A little chilli can also enhance the flavour of egg and cheese dishes.
Shelf life of two years provided that goods are stored in an airtight container in ambient conditions.
